Germany's Lie: John Demjanjuk and German Normality

In his recent study Unser Kampf: 1968, historian Götz Aly provides details from the CVs of two leading West Berlin police officials at the time of the 1967 shooting of student protestor Benno Ohnesorg. The thoroughly ordinary German biographies of the two men cast an instructive light upon Germany’s plans to try John Demjanjuk.

More on the Ilan Halimi Photo

So, now it turns out that the photo of Ilan Halimi in captivity whose publication by the magazine Choc is supposed to be so scandalous has in fact already been shown in the French media. This did not, however, prevent a French court from ordering the issue of Choc withdrawn from circulation.

A Photo of Barbarity: The Torment of Ilan Halimi

The publication of a horrifying photo of Ilan Halimi has caused a scandal in France – but for all the wrong reasons. That Obama would be planning a trip to Germany in connection with ceremonies marking the anniversary of the Normandy invasion is already rather odd. But when one considers where exactly in Germany Obama appears to be headed - viz. Dresden - then the significance of the visit becomes more clear.

German YouTubers Heart Ahmadinejad

For many years now, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been speaking to Germany: in a long letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in two interviews with the German weekly Der Spiegel, and in passing remarks in numerous speeches and press conferences. He has been speaking to Germany in terms that Americans might fail to recognize, but that will be extremely familiar to his intended audience: namely, in the classical terms of post-WWII German revisionism. And to judge by the comments on a YouTube clip of his recent speech in Geneva, his message has been greatly appreciated...
